How to access the report cards
All the Rhode Island school, district, and state
report cards are available in PDF (Portable Document Format). In
order to view or print these files you need the free Adobe
Acrobat® ReaderT software. You can download the software from
the
Adobe Web site, then you will need to install it on your computer.
How can I search the report cards?
To find a school:
- Select School Report Cards
from the menu
- Go to the complete list of
all Rhode Island schools
- Type in a school name, or part of a school name (such as "Kennedy"
or "Robert F. Kennedy School")
- Select a grade level using the pull-down menu
- Enter a school code (such as 28160)
To find a district:
To search the State level report:
- Select State Report Card from
the menu for a detailed look at Rhode Island public schools
- Select from the left-hand links to quickly locate a specific
chart
If you are searching for a school or district,
you will see a list of the 4 available reports. Select a link to
view the report card.
Downloading and Installing Acrobat Reader
On the Adobe
Acrobat Web site, select "Get Acrobat Reader - Free!"
You will need to enter the operating system (Windows XP, 2000, 98
or Macintosh), then begin the download. Be sure to send the file
to a location where you can easily find it afterward, such as the
Desktop. If you are using a modem to connect to the Internet, it
may take you extra time to complete the download.
Once the download has completed, double-click
on the installer icon and follow the installation instructions.
Configuring your browser to view the reports
Both Netscape (4 and above) and Internet Explorer
(4 and above), by default, use a plug-in to automatically open Acrobat
Reader within your browser. When you click a PDF file link, Acrobat
Reader will open right in your browser's window.
If you would rather configure your computer to
open Acrobat Reader as a helper application (rather than as a plug-in),
please refer to
Configuring Windows Browser for Reader (Windows users)
or
Configuring Mac OS Browsers for Reader (Macintosh users). When
you use this configuration and click a PDF file link, the browser
opens Acrobat Reader as a separate application where you view the
PDF.
How to Print the Reports
While viewing the report cards either in your
browser window or in Acrobat Reader, go to File-Print, or simply
click on the small printer icon in the upper left-hand corner.
Why PDF (Portable Document Format)?
While HTML is great for displaying information
on the Web, it is not very structured and is not the best choice
for producing reports or charts and graphs that require rigid formatting.
Adobe® Portable Document Format (PDF) is the open de facto standard
for electronic document distribution worldwide. PDF files can also
be opened reliably across a broad range of hardware and software.
Adobe PDF is a universal file format that preserves all of the fonts,
formatting, colors, and graphics of any source document, regardless
of the application and platform used to create it.
