User's Guide: Reading the Reports
In the District and State Reports:
Type of Schooling
Public charter: The percentage of Rhode Island’s students who
are enrolled in charter schools, whether operated by a school
district or by a nonprofit agency.
Other public schools: The percentage of Rhode Island’s
students who are enrolled in public schools, governed by a district,
as of October 2001, exclusive of those enrolled in public charter
schools.
Home instructed: The percentage of students who have received
permission from the school committee of their local district to be
instructed at home according to the provisions of Section 16-19-2 of
the General Laws of Rhode Island, as of October 2001.
Non-public: The percentage of students who attend private or
parochial schools, as of October 2001.
Note:
Two districts, Jamestown and Little Compton, do not have their own
high schools; they send their students to the public high schools in
North Kingstown and Portsmouth, respectively. For the “type of
schooling” pie chart only, these high-school students are counted as
part of the district in which they live, not as part of the district
in which they attend school.
