Special Education Dropout Rate

WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT

These two bar graphs show the dropout rate/graduation rate for students with special educational needs and for the state as a whole. The dropout rate is the inverse of the graduation rate; together, they total 100%, accounting for all (high school) students in each of the three categories.

WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR

The state’s goal is a 95 percent graduation rate (5 percent dropout rate) or better for all high-school students. So you would like to see a dropout rate of 5 percent or less for both categories. In addition, the dropout rate for students with special educational needs should not be significantly higher than the dropout rate for all high-school students; if it is significantly higher, then there is an “equity gap” for the state’s dropout rate. The state’s goal is to close all equity gaps.
